What is UGC NET ?

National Eligibility Test (NET) is a qualifying exam conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), but from Dec 2014 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the exam on behalf of UGC. It is compulsory to clear the exam for postgraduate candidates who have interest in teaching jobs in various universities in India. It is also required for those who wish to take admission in PhD programme in India. The exam is held twice a year (in June and December months).

The examination fee for ugc net entrance exam 2014 is and 110 respectively for General, OBC and SC/ST/PWD candidates. The general category candidates should have Master's Degree with 55% marks from a UGC recognized university. UGC NET eligibility criteria regarding minimum marks for OBC/SC/ST/PWD candidates is 50% (without rounding off) in Master's degree or equivalent examination.
